After being postponed, the press conference scheduled for this Tuesday in Oslo with María Corina Machado, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, has finally been cancelled, according to the spokesperson for the Nobel Institute. «María Corina Machado herself has communicated how difficult it was for her to come to Norway. We hope you will attend the Nobel ceremony this Wednesday at Oslo City Hall, declared Erik Aasheim.
Maria Corina Machado will not participate this Tuesday in the scheduled event, a press conference, which should have occurred a few hours ago but was postponed. Some sources close to him comment that it could take place tomorrow, the main day of the event, because that is when the Nobel Prize ceremony will take place.
The Nobel Institute claims to have no further information. It is a difficult trip, after the Venezuelan authorities announced that they will consider her a fugitive if she leaves the country.
The Reuters agency says that Machado is in the Norwegian capital, at the Grand Hotel, where the winner stays every year. At the doors of this establishment, the president of Panama José Raúl Mulino, who has come to accompany Machado, also appeared.
“I’m anxious just like you, I don’t know if it has arrived but I’m sure it will arrive,” Mulino told RFI.
In addition to Mulino, the presence of his Argentine counterpart Javier Milei is scheduled.
Corina Parisca, mother of María Corina Machado, is also in Oslo, as is part of her family, and the exiled opponent in Spain Edmundo González Urrutia is expected to arrive this afternoon. American Congressman Carlos Gimenez, one of the people who nominated her for this Nobel Peace Prize, traveled to the Norwegian capital.
«It is an honor for me because I was one of the people who nominated her for the fight for freedom and peace because that is what she wants. In many moments, when you have a change of government, violence is used, but she did not, she used democracy, we were treating it peacefully with elections but Nicolas Maduro refuses to hand over power to the people whom the Venezuelan people elected,” he told RFI.
However, the closeness shown by Machado to Trump has also caused complaints about this award.
