Maduro thanks the people of Norway for rejecting imperialist interference

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, thanked this Tuesday the people of Oslo, the capital of Norway, who took to the streets in thousands to ask for peace for Venezuela and reject the war in the country, as well as the military threats in the Caribbean by the United States.

“I want to thank from here the people of Oslo and Norway who in their thousands took to the streets today to ask for peace for Venezuela, to support Venezuela in its desire for peace and development, to say no to war for oil, no blood for oil,” he expressed.

During a session of the National Economy Council, the head of state highlighted that the protesters rejected the award to the far-right María Corina Machado, who has openly requested military actions, invasion and sanctions against the country. “no to the bloody Nobel said the protesters’ banners.”

Maduro also thanked the various protests that have been held in support of Venezuela from various countries around the world. He highlighted the most recent ones developed in the US itself. «Last Saturday in the United States in the United States of North America itself, on Saturday More than 65 cities, the people, the taxpayers, the citizens came out with their slogans and their banners to say, “No war Venezuela.” Yes, peace, yes, peace. “They even danced the famous changa.”

«All the surveys say in the United States that 70% of public opinion rejects military threats against Venezuela, it rejects a so-called criminal and eternal war, military interventionism, an attempt at regime change in Venezuela, no, American public opinion rejects it (…) It is rejected by workers, youth, social movements, human rights defenders, it is rejected by ordinary men and women, I was impressed. More than 65 cities, do you know what that is? A phenomenon. And that is thanks to the growing awareness in the world that the world needs peace, equality and respect,” said the president.

On the cold afternoon of this Tuesday, intense mobilizations took place in front of the Nobel Institute in Oslo, where each year the awarding of the Peace Prize is decided. The protesters gathered to reject the decision to award the award to María Corina Machado, an emblematic figure of the Venezuelan extreme right and a key ally of the United States’ pressure strategy against Venezuela, reports Telesur.

In front of the building, activists from different countries denounced what they consider a flagrant contradiction with the spirit of the award.

A spokesperson for international solidarity organizations told:
“María Corina Machado does not represent peace. She represents military aggression, imperialism and interventionism. This award is false in the context of the expansion of wars and Western military operations.”

The protest in Oslo summarizes an indignation that has spread to solidarity movements, pacifist platforms and social sectors in different countries, which see in this award support for figures who have promoted sanctions, blockades, calls for military intervention and political violence in Venezuela.

On the other hand, the Norwegian Peace Movement rejected this Tuesday from Oslo the awarding of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the representative of the Venezuelan extreme right, María Corina Machado, denouncing the Norwegian Committee for ignoring the founding principles of Alfred Nobel and diverting funds from their original purpose. The movement argues that Machado is “far from being the champion of peace” that the Nobel criteria requires.

The movement recalled that the Nobel Peace Prize is based on three inseparable pillars: demilitarization, peace conferences and cooperation between nations in conflict. These elements, described as “a wheel” by Nobel, are fundamental to his legacy. However, the spokespersons lamented the “many deviations” observed in the more than one hundred years of the award’s history, pointing out that the committee in Oslo has ignored these guidelines “in an arrogant manner.”

These allegations resonate with historical criticisms of the autonomy of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Already in 2012, an expert in Sweden noted that the committee “is not an independent party, but is based on Swedish Law.” Later, in 2014, it was indicated that the election of the winners “should not be exempt from the limitations of the State.”

Analysts showed that the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the far-right representative contradicts the statutes of the Committee that grants that award, because Machado maintains an agenda that promotes war, the invasion of her country and has openly defended the genocide that Israel commits against the Palestinian people.

They said the award given to Machado is interpreted as an award to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The participants pointed out that Machado has not hidden his intentions to hand over Venezuelan natural resources to the United States, including the largest oil reserves in the world. And he has supported all the sanctions imposed by the US against the Venezuelan people.
