Four prosecutors from the Public Ministry were arrested due to their alleged involvement in various acts of corruption, according to an official publication.
One of the detainees is Johanna Elyouri, who had been serving as prosecutor 9 of the Lara state. Elyouri will be charged with the crimes of delay or intentional omission of duties and abuse of authority, the report says.
“Said official arbitrarily and ignoring the circulars signed by Dr. Tarek William Saab (which require strict compliance with the Constitution and the Law, together with the respective coordination of each tax office with superiority) criminally attempted to: carry out the arbitrary unemployment of people who were living in the El Ujano sector (eastern area of Barquisimeto, Lara),” wrote Attorney General Tarek William Saab on his Instagram account.
In Caracas, three prosecutors were detained, identified as Lenyn Puello, Deide Cabezas and Sabelle Sosa, who will be charged with delay or intentional omission of duties and aggregation.
“These former officials requested money from a citizen in order to remove him from an investigation being carried out by the aforementioned tax office,” Saab wrote, referring to Prosecutor’s Office 30 of Caracas, the office to which they were attached.
Last September, agents of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) detained 19 prosecutors for interrogation in relation to alleged acts of corruption and conspiracy.
Among those investigated are Marvin Emperatriz González (director against Corruption), Ángel Fuenmayor (director of Common Crimes) and Orlando Peña (director of Organized Crime); in addition to the national prosecutor Farid Mora Salcedo. These people have already been replaced: in Organized Crime, Mirian Lima was appointed; Milagros Salcedo in Corruption and Luis Ernesto Dueñes in Common Crimes.
