Through a public statement, the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR) urged the authorities to implement a security plan for the 2026 General Elections.
The organization was concerned “about the serious climate of insecurity and the advance of organized crime that threaten the normal development of the electoral process.”
“The ANGR warns the President of the Republic that the country remains in a critical scenario: the candidates are campaigning under threats, while organized crime puts democracy at risk,” they noted in the message on their social networks.
The organization urged the Judiciary, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police of Peru and the electoral organizations to implement a “National Preventive Electoral Security Plan.”
“The government must act firmly to prevent any attempt at intimidation or interference in electoral competition,” they noted.
