The rally led by President Claudia Sheinbaum overflowed the streets and avenues near the capital’s Zócalo, which appeared crowded several hours before the event began.

Thousands of people from various states gathered on the main roads of the Historic Center, expressing their support for the president through slogans, blankets and banners, in a party atmosphere that was felt from the beginning, with music and dancing.

On Juárez Avenue, at the height of the Alameda, attendees walked towards the Plaza de la Constitución, waving Mexican flags while listening to the boisterous roar of a traditional Oaxacan band.

The atmosphere was marked by the shouts of the protesters who “showed off” the state or municipality where they came from. To the chorus of “Tabasco, Tabasco,” others responded with “Michoacán” or “Ecatepec.”

Even the President’s supporters were surprised by her ability to rally people. “Don’t stain, there are a lot of people,” exclaimed a young woman with a surprised expression, arm in arm with her parents.

The voices that emphasized their willingness to attend the march out of personal will were loudly heard. One of them is that of Alejandro Campos, who arrived by electric motorcycle from the state of Mexico, and wrote on the back of his shirt the phrase “I am not carried,” in large red letters.

Already during the president’s message, and given the impossibility of reaching the Zócalo, hundreds of people followed the speech through a giant screen located on the corner of La Palma and September 16. There, each phrase of the President – especially those related to sovereignty and the increase in the minimum wage – was accompanied with cheers and applause.

youth support

In different publications on social networks, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, made reference to the concentration: “Today (yesterday) the youth took to the streets to say that the governments of the 4T represent them.” He added that they “are the center of social policy.”

The person responsible for the country’s internal politics highlighted: “Today we celebrate that Mexico is experiencing a new stage (…) a peaceful revolution in which the people are the main actor.”
