Maduro took advantage of the call to invite the president of Turkey to visit Caracas in 2026, on the occasion of the V Meeting of the Joint Commission, in which both governments plan to deepen their political, economic and cultural cooperation.
Nicolás Maduro spoke with the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and both agreed “on the importance of reestablishing, as soon as possible, the Caracas-Istanbul-Caracas air connection through Turkish Airlines.”
The Turkish airline Turkish Airlines canceled its flights to and from Venezuela until December 1, like other international airlines, after the United States Federal Aviation Administration recommended “extreme caution” when flying over Venezuelan territory and the southern Caribbean in the face of “a potentially dangerous situation in the region.”
Despite the information shared by the Venezuelan authorities, the Turkish airline has not yet reported when flights between both countries could resume. Its office at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía remains closed and with a statement inviting passengers to contact the company to discuss any questions.
The reestablishment of the Caracas-Istanbul route would allow for the re-mobilization of “thousands of tourists and investors who use this connection weekly to strengthen ties between both nations,” the official statement said.

Maduro and Erdoğan also valued the increase in trade exchange, with the joint goal of reaching $3 billion, and highlighted the recent business exhibitions held in Istanbul and Caracas as signs of the “strength and vitality” of the bilateral relationship.
