Fermín Aguilar, a resident for more than 20 years, stated that the lack of organization in the work is what allowed the slowness of the work: “Imagine, they make a column there, then another here… I don’t see the point in what they are doing,” he explained.

Metro expansion work progresses slowly
Regarding the expansion of the Metro, those interviewed assure that the work should have been completed a long time ago.
“They should have finished that work a long time ago,” said Mr. Fermín Aguilar when questioned.

Meanwhile, everyday life becomes impassable on the only route where hundreds of people travel to their homes, jobs and educational centers.
“The traffic jams here have become very long. There have always been, but since they are building the subway the streets have become chaotic. Not even motorists are safe,” exclaimed another resident.

In March 2024, President Luis Abinader gave the first push for the extension of two more stations line 1 in addition to Mama Tingó, mainly for the benefit of the residents of Punta de Villa Mella and San Felipe, whose population has grown considerably
The project seeks to improve Santo Domingo’s transportation system by adding nearly 2.5 km in length, facilitating the lives of thousands of users who daily use the subway to move quickly and economically. For this reason, the community members demand promptness with the delivery of the work.
