Christmas Plan: Bogotá prepares 1,200 Police and 2,390 officials for the Christmas season

The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galanannounced that the city will have 1,200 police officers and 2,390 District servers that will guarantee the security, tranquility and control of all citizens during the Christmas season.

The presence of the public force It will be deployed in the main strategic corridors of the capital, as well as in areas of high commercial influx, TransMilenio and 13 common areas of the city.

The strategy is focused on strengthening especially 26 shopping centers and 16 rumba zones of the city in eight locations. In these places there will be a massive takeover by the Police because they have the highest homicide rates.

“We will have a coordinated reinforcement between the entities of the District and the Metropolitan Police to guarantee presence, control and support throughout the city,” said Mayor Galán.

Gunpowder regulation

The controls also cover the use of the gunpowder by the citizens. Although to date no burns have been reported in the city, the Cundinamarca Fire Department reported a minor under 15 years of age in the municipality of Fusagasugá.

“Gunpowder is not a game. It mutilates, leaves consequences and can change a life in seconds. We are in prevention mode and ready to respond, but our goal is that no one reaches a burn unit. Celebrating without gunpowder is the best decision,” announced the Undersecretary of Public Health, Julian Fernandez.

To regulate the use of gunpowder, the Mayor’s Office issued the Decree 598 of 2025which updates the regulations for pyrotechnic products, unifies procedures and creates the Intersectorial Commission for the Prevention and Monitoring of the Use of Gunpowder in Bogotá.

In addition, commercial establishments were warned to abide by these regulations to prevent them from falling into fines that could exceed the 700 thousand pesos.

Firefighters

The captain of the Cundinamarca Fire Department, Alvaro Farfanlaunched the campaign this Friday “Let’s light the party but not the gunpowder”an initiative that seeks to raise awareness about the use and manipulation of these products.

“There is no pyrotechnic element that is harmless; all of this precisely requires that it be handled by highly qualified personnel. What we seek is to raise awareness among people to avoid unfortunate situations,” warned Captain Farfán.
