Santo Domingo.- A retired lieutenant of the National Police, identified as Roberto Carlos Contreras, alias El Mellovoluntarily surrendered to Dicrim in Invivienda after being identified by two inmates as allegedly involved in the theft of RD$300,000 from Mrs. Clodomina Merán, which occurred in that same sector.
Contreras categorically rejected the accusations and clarified that the victim is his ex-wife. He stated that he has no reason to get involved in criminal actssince “I am financially well and I own a car dealer.”
The delivery of the former officer was carried out by the representative of Human Rights, Diógenes Ozuna, who presented him to Colonel Barrientos, commander of the Dicrimand the first lieutenant, Gonzalez Ozuna asked to “preserve the physical integrity” of Contreras and warned that they will not tolerate abuses.
“His surrender was voluntary; we don’t want it to happen like in other cases where people are tortured when we leave,” he said.
Ozuna also defended the career of ex-lieutenant, noting that he is a “hard-working, serious and helpful” man.
For his part, the first lieutenant Gonzalez guaranteed respect for due process, a commitment that Ozuna said he trusted will be fulfilled by the representatives of the National Police.
