At the start of the installation of the IX National Political Council of the PRI, Moreno Cárdenas, against whom a possible process of violation of immunity promoted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of the state of Campeche is latent in the Chamber of Deputies, insisted that “we are not afraid of them.”
Before federal and local deputies, members of the PRI leadership in the 32 entities and members of the state executive committees, the senator also proclaimed the beginning of work towards the 2026 election in Coahuila, where only the state Congress will be renewed.
Even so, he maintained that this entity will be the beginning of ”the electoral battle” towards the 2027 federal elections.
“With the victory of Coahuila, we are going to win again and we are going to return. And in Coahuila we are going to beat them. Therefore, we are going to fight. Also in 2027 to win the 17 governorships, the more than 1,800 mayoralties, the 31 local congresses and the 300 federal districts. We are going to win,” he said.
As part of the work towards these victories, he asked his coreligionists to defend the population’s causes and do territorial work, although he admitted that the PRI has made mistakes.
“Let’s defend injustices and not be afraid, friends. Because they can persecute us, they can want to imprison us, even murder us, but they won’t be able to handle all the people of Mexico and they won’t be able to handle the PRI members.”
“We will go out as we have done, to the territory and to the streets. And if the government is silent, let it speak in the street. We are going to look at the people with pride. We PRI members have nothing to be ashamed of. We recognize mistakes, of course we have made mistakes, but feel proud of the governments we have had.”
Moreno made reference to the message from former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador last weekend and with which he reappeared after a year after leaving the government, and maintained that “he intends to make people believe that his legacy is a cause for celebration when what that cynic and corrupt should do is be accountable to justice.”
He assured that compared to the PRI governments, López Obrador falls short.
“López Obrador’s legacy is reduced to having allowed the consolidation of a narco-government, to having made an unpunished criminal pact with the drug cartels, the most shameful thing in the history of our country. That is why from the PRI I say it clearly and with determination: Mexico has nothing to boast about the Morena governments,” he stated.
After the event, the leader led, together with his wife Christelle Castañón and their two children, the lighting of the PRI Christmas tree and lived with his supporters on the tricolor esplanade.
