The extraordinary meeting of the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), scheduled for this Friday (5), was postponed until next Monday (8).
The meeting would be the first step for the Legislature to analyze the judicial decision that determined the arrest of the president of the Assembly, deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil).
The postponement information was confirmed to Brazil Agency by Alerj parliamentarians.
The initial call for this Friday had been signed by the acting president of Alerj, deputy Guilherme Delaroli (PL), and published in an extra edition of Official Gazette of the Legislature on Thursday night (4).
The expectation was that the CCJ would deliberate on the opinion regarding the maintenance of Bacellar’s prison.
Information leak
Bacellar was arrested on Wednesday (3) inside the Federal Police Superintendency, in Rio, during Operation Nail and Flesh.
He is accused of leaking confidential information from Operation Zargun and directing deputy TH Joias to destroy evidence.
With the postponement, the CCJ’s analysis will be until Monday, when deputies must decide whether to forward the vote to maintain or revoke the arrest of the president of the House to the Alerj plenary.
The result will define the next steps of the process within the Legislative Branch.
