The Provincial Municipal Council of Jauja rejected the approval at the insistence of the bill that declares the construction of the Orcotuna Airport a public necessity, considering that it directly affects the strategic interests of the province. The commune recalled that Jauja already has the “Francisco Carlé” Airport, an operational infrastructure certified by the MTC that requires modernization and internationalization, not duplication of investments.

According to the statement, the Orcotuna project lacks technical and environmental support, in addition to having been declared inactive by the MEF due to the Regional Government’s lack of competence for its formulation. Likewise, they highlighted that the population, social organizations and unions of Jauja have expressed a resounding rejection of transferring resources to another air terminal, considering that it violates principles of decentralization and regional equity.

The Municipal Council urged Congress, the Executive Branch and the MTC to prioritize the improvement of the Jauja Airport and requested an independent technical and environmental evaluation before allocating funds to the Orcotuna project. Finally, he decided to send his statement to the national, regional and local authorities, inviting them to join the defense of “Francisco Carlé.”
