Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado This Thursday he called on his compatriots in the world to a global march on Saturday “for peace and freedom” in Venezuela. The mobilization is scheduled four days before she travels to Norway to receive, as a laureate, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
Through a video published on social networks, Machado detailed that the activity will take place in 80 cities in more than 20 countries and urged Venezuelans to find out about the established meeting points, as well as to propose new locations if they consider it necessary.
“This Saturday we have a great opportunity, we are going to ratify this message in the march for peace and freedom. While the regime (Nicolás Maduro’s government) tries to hide this incredible achievement, this recognition that the entire world gives to us Venezuelans, we are going to turn on a light in the main cities of the world. Every torch, every candle, every light is going to be a cry for the peace and freedom of Venezuela,” he stated Machado.
And he added: “See you this coming Saturday, December 6, and that day the world will know why the Nobel Prize is ours.”
The opponent highlighted that this international recognition represents the “democratic struggle, citizen organization, the ability to continue standing in the face of oppression and that conviction that Venezuela was born to be free.”
“You and I know that this is a recognition that calls us to be even more firm to complete the task to achieve the freedom of Venezuela. This requires that all the time, on all possible platforms, we elevate our cause,” he added.
International Participation
The Vente Venezuela (VV) party, led by Machado, announced that the call has the participation of cities in at least 24 countries, including 20 in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Zaragoza and Valencia. However, VV’s communications team told Efe that the “uncertainty and repressive escalation in Venezuela does not yet allow for the announcement of rallies within the country,” until the safety of attendees is guaranteed.
The Nobel Committee confirmed that Machado will travel to Oslo to receive the award, although Jørgen Watne Frydnes, leader of the Committee, warned in statements to the public channel NRK that it is “a dangerous trip because the Venezuelan regime has said that it wants to get her out of the way,” and stressed the importance of guaranteeing her safety both when traveling and returning to Venezuela.
