The interim president of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosiwas this Thursday in favor of extending the Reinfogiven the number of miners who “may be left in the air” if it is repealed.
“There are 30,000 miners who are active in Reinfo and who cannot simply remain in the air. There is no way not to expand,” he said at a press conference.
The head of Parliament assured that he supports the Executive’s proposal to extend the controversial mining registry for only one year and not two. However, he considered that the reincorporation of 50,000 miners who were excluded in the previous government should not be allowed.
“Particularly I think it’s very good, but there are other points that are even more important. The 50,000 who were excluded in the previous government should not return and that is stated in the communication sent by the president of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Energy and Mines,” he stated.
On the other hand, he emphasized that Reinfo should be prohibited not only in areas of rivers, lakes and protected areas, but also where formal companies exist. In that sense, he denounced that informal miners have entered areas of formal companies and warned that the opinion of the Energy and Mines Commission proposes that they cannot be removed.
“In the Energy and Mines bill it says that they cannot be removed. That is absolutely abnormal and unusual,” he stated.
