“I was also pleased that it received a lot of approval, there were 97 votes in the Senate and there will be much more coordination now between the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the National Guard,” he highlighted.
Sheinbaum said that, with the arrival of Godoy, the relationship with the state prosecutors’ offices will be strengthened to work together in favor of the pacification of the country.
Similar to what happened with former prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero, the president trusted that with Godoy the presence of the prosecutor in some meetings with the security cabinet will be maintained.
“We have not discussed it with Ernestina, it depends on her how many times she wants to come to the cabinet. It is very important to us that if she does not come, there is a representative of the prosecutor’s office, as was the case with Dr. Gertz, for the cases that are permanently seen in the cabinet,” he indicated.
The president rejected that because the Prosecutor’s Office is autonomous, there cannot be some type of coordination, which is essential to work for peace.
“Autonomy does not mean that there is no coordination. Autonomy means that the executive does not influence the decisions of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, but we want coordination to guarantee peace and security in the country, which is fundamental,” he said.
