Lines of action

Departmental directors of INAU will participate in national meeting

The city of Minas, capital of the department of Lavalleja, will receive from today all the Departmental Directors of the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU) to define the general lines of action in the five-year period.

A few hours after taking office, the Departmental Director of Cerro Largo will be part of this meeting that will last until tomorrow, Friday, December 5.

“In this new Administration, meetings of Departmental Directors are being held. In some cases they have remained in their positions and in others, like ours, there have been changes. At the national level they are working on a strategic plan for the country, with certain lines of work that will guide us in a way of power, based on these more general guidelines, adapt them or think of other lines that are more suited to our territory, to our particular reality.” held the Graduate Yandira Álvarez.

He said that, from the centrality, some components have already been considered, for example the perspective and characteristic of the border area with Brazil, which in turn generates other complexities.

“In our case, rurality is also an aspect to be addressed” he pointed out. “We have a dispersed rurality where thinking in terms of public policy, of cost-benefit in relation to the number of people who are there does not give the numbers, but nevertheless it is very important to be able to think of strategies for those childhoods and those families, also in rural areas” said to THE PROFESSIONAL Radio the new Departmental Director of INAU in Cerro Largo.

In that sense, he visualized strengths in the Civil Associations where, in the case of the 9th Section of Cerro Largo, there is the Quebracho Foundation, with a long history in the department, deploying innovative work. “It was where the Rural CAIFs were first implemented” he remembered.

Beyond the rigidity of INAU for the opening of devices in terms of the number of children and families to be served, the Institute to address this reality in rural areas has implemented innovative strategies such as Itinerant Teams. “It is a way for the State, for public institutions, to reach the localities” Yandira Álvarez said during the live interview.

“CAIF is a very consolidated public policy, which transcends Early Childhood because it also works with the family, with the community and is committed to inter-institutionality” he pointed out. “In rural areas this is central because it places the State in those areas that are sometimes forgotten” he added.

24 HOUR DEVICE FOR RÍO BRANCO

The second city in the department, with about 20,000 inhabitants according to the 2023 Census, still does not have a 24-hour Device for the care of children and adolescents.

“There are some issues that have already come up, they are not my initiatives, but rather I come across projects and proposals that are very important” considered. “There is the possibility of thinking about some type of device in a 24-hour agreement for Río Branco” advancement.

“At this moment we don’t have it and that implies another violation because the boys and girls who have to enter the 24-hour system who live in Río Branco are necessarily uprooted from their place, their school and their friends.” Yandira Álvarez finished saying.
