The Dominican Republic Navy reported Tuesday morning that the cruise Norwegian Escape landed from where it was stranded and is being inspected by the relevant authorities to continue the scheduled navigation route.
The Civil Defense informed Diario Libre that the cruise ship dismounted at 1:30 in the morning. A report on the situation will be presented in the course of the morning.
“Thanks to the joint and combined effort carried out by the multiple institutions and agencies participating in the rescue and salvage operation of the cruise Norwegian Escape, IMO, N0. 9677076, from Bandera Nasáu Bahamas, which showed little more than eight hours, the flagship was freed from where it was stranded in the outer port of Taíno Bay, Puerto Plata, through maneuvers of the tugboats and its own propulsion, it returned to the port, for the purpose of being inspected before continuing the route stipulated in your recreational navigation program,” the institution reported through its Twitter account.
Last night the ship remained stranded in the bay of Puerto Plata with about five thousand people between cruise passengers and crew.
Vice Admiral Ramón Gustavo Betances Hernández, commander of the Navy of the Dominican Republic, when announcing the preliminary report of the incident, indicated that the winds registered in the Atlantic Bride took the ship out of the channel.
Norwegian Escape is the 14th cruise that arrives at the port of Taíno Bay in the month of March. While in January 23 ships arrived and 21 in February.
The Taino Bay has helped revive tourism in cruise in the Puerto Plata area.
