The family of a Colombian fisherman murdered in an attack in the Caribbean, filed a complaint with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), against the Government of the United States (USA), for this homicide.
The victim responded to the name of Alejandro Carranza Medina, who worked as a fisherman from Santa Marta. On September 15, US troops stationed in the Caribbean bombed his boat and he lost his life. Given this, his relatives filed a complaint against Donald Trump’s administration for violating international law.
“The United States has violated the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man,” the document says, while highlighting the importance of respect for the right to life.
First complaint against US attacks
RT reports, in a press release, that this is the first formal complaint made against the US after more than 80 people lost their lives traveling in boats through the Caribbean.
The person in charge of handling this case is Dan Kovalik, who is also President Gustavo Petro’s lawyer, after being included in the so-called “Clinton list.”
«They are terrorizing people, this is terrorism. People are afraid to go out fishing, they have plunged the entire region into a state of fear, which is what they want,” said Kovalik.
Pete Hegseth Principal Responsible
The complaint identifies Pete Hegseth, US Secretary of War, as “responsible for ordering the bombing of vessels like those of Alejandro Carranza Medina and the murder of all their occupants.”
“Secretary Hegseth has admitted that he gave these orders despite not knowing the identity of the people who were the objects of these attacks and extrajudicial executions,” indicates part of the document.
Likewise, the lawyer highlights that this complaint aims to achieve “reparation for the family”, as well as take the first step to stop the deaths in the Caribbean.
