In three days of operation, BC Protege+ blocked 3,170 attempts to open fraudulent accounts. According to the most recent balance released by the institution, 193.8 thousand people activated protection, and financial institutions made 3.04 million queries to the system to verify requests to open accounts or include account holders.
The data was collected until 5:45 pm this Wednesday (3). Launched on Monday (1st), BC Protege+ is a free service to reinforce the protection of citizens and companies against fraud when opening current, savings and prepaid payment accounts.
By activating the service, the user officially communicates that they do not wish to open accounts or be included as a holder or representative of third-party accounts. Consultation of the system by financial institutions is mandatory before opening any account.
The feature works as an additional layer of security to prevent identity fraud and prevent financial products from being contracted in accounts illegally opened in the name of the citizen or company.
How to activate
Access the logged in area of My BC with Account gov.br silver or gold level and two-step verification enabled;
Locate the BC Protege+ service and activate protection;
Employees of companies registered with gov.br can also activate protection on behalf of the organization;
The choice is recorded in the system and is automatically informed to financial institutions when they consult the customer’s data.
Deactivation
If the user wishes to open an account or be included in a third party account, it is necessary to access BC Protege+ again and temporarily deactivate the protection. The Central Bank recommends scheduling an automatic reactivation date, ensuring that security is reestablished after the procedure.
The service is free and can be activated or deactivated at any time.
