Yesterday the authorities seized another cache of 114 packages of cocaine, during a joint and combined operation carried out on the coast of Baní, Peravia.
After several hours of monitoring, the crew members, upon noticing the presence of the units, accelerated the boat’s progress, proceeded to throw several bales of narcotics into the Caribbean Sea, managing to evade the chase, heading towards the southern coast.
Subsequently, a search and tracking operation was carried out several nautical miles south of the municipality of Baní, managing to recover four bales, containing a total of 114 packages of alleged cocaine, wrapped in adhesive tape and with different logos.
The operational teams, of agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), members of the Navy (ARD) and the Air Force (FARD) coordinated by the Public Ministry, responding to an alert related to a boat, heading to the Dominican coast with a possible cache of controlled substances, deployed interdiction tasks (air, sea and land) to intercept the boat and neutralize the operation.
“At this time, helicopters, boats and ground reaction equipment remain deployed throughout the area, in search of possible crimes, as well as the crew of the vessel,” states the press release from the anti-narcotics agency.
The security forces of the Dominican Republic, with the support of international organizations, have reinforced maritime, air and land interdiction operations, to deny the use of jurisdictional waters to international drug trafficking structures.
The 114 packages confiscated in this operation were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), which will determine the exact type and weight of the cache.
