China works with all parties to "avoid an escalation" of the conflict in Venezuela

The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry asserted that his country “opposes the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of Venezuela under any pretext.”

The Chinese Government assured this Wednesday, December 3, that it “works with all parties” to “avoid further escalation” of the situation in Venezuela, after the American president, Donald Trump, stated that his country is preparing land attacks in the midst of its military deployment in waters near the Caribbean country.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian stated today in a press conference that Beijing “opposes any action that violates the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations or that threatens the sovereignty and security of other countries.”

Lin asserted that China “opposes the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of Venezuela under any pretext.”

“The Chinese Government works with all parties to safeguard the status of the ‘peace zone’ of Latin America and the Caribbean and avoid further escalation of the situation,” the spokesperson added.

During a meeting at the White House, Trump insisted that “very soon” attacks against drug trafficking cartels within Venezuelan territory will begin, which would be part of Operation Southern Spear, which so far has destroyed around twenty vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, leaving, according to the US, more than 80 people dead.

Venezuela warned this Tuesday that regional stability in the Caribbean is “threatened” by “an unprecedented US military deployment” that seeks to “destabilize” the environment of the Caribbean nation and affect its sovereignty.

While Washington accuses Nicolás Maduro of leading a “terrorist organization” called the Cartel of the Suns, Caracas denounces that the US is carrying out its deployment as part of a plan to promote a “regime change” and remove Chavismo, which has been in power since 1999.

Beijing, which has strengthened its exchanges with Caracas in recent years, has repeatedly condemned in recent weeks what it describes as “interference” in Venezuela’s internal affairs by the United States.
