The presidents of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, yesterday ratified their support for the sovereignty of Venezuela.
Díaz-Canel described as “unacceptable” the threats and military aggression that the United States Government is preparing against Venezuela with the aim of overthrowing President Nicolás Maduro.
“The interference, threats and military aggression that the US is preparing against Venezuela to overthrow its legitimate government is unacceptable,” the president wrote on the social network X.
He highlighted that the gunboat policy and the Monroe doctrine are part of a neocolonial past, while Latin America and the Caribbean are recognized as a zone of peace, in accordance with the proclamation approved in 2014 by the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
For his part, Sheinbaum reiterated his support for the principle of Venezuela’s sovereignty, after US President Donald Trump ordered new military actions and, illegally, the closure of the South American country’s airspace in the southern Caribbean Sea.
During her morning conference at the National Palace, the president recalled that Mexico maintains a firm and clear position: “By conviction and by Constitution we believe in the self-determination of the people and their full sovereignty.” He stressed his support for dialogue and a peaceful solution.
