Cuban Yisnoly López nominated for Panam Sports award

This season can close in style for the canoeist Cuban Yisnoly López.

The woman from Villa Clara appears among the candidates for prize Sports Achievement that Panam Sports will present at the end of this month to recognize the most outstanding youth athletes of the year on the continent.

Yisnoly shone during the Junior Pan American Gamesheld this summer in the Paraguayan city of Asunción, where she became the most prominent exponent of the island’s delegation, winning four medals, three of them gold.

The Cuban reigned in the C-1 events at 200 meters and C2 at 500 meters, along with Dirogina Castillo, and also joined forces with Jvier Requeiro to rise to the top in the C2 at 500 meters, in the mixed modality.

He also won a bronze medal in the C1 specialty at 500 meters, during his debut in the event.

In addition to Yisnoly, nine other outstanding figures were nominated in this multi-sport competition, among them the Mexican divers Mía and Lía Cueva, the Brazilian taekwondoka Henrique Márques and the Colombian long jumper Natalia Linares.

Other awards

The new edition of the Panam Sports Awards will award awards in seven categories. Along with Sports Achievement, the Best Junior Athletes and Teams of each sex will be recognized, as well as the Influencer Athlete and a Fair Play distinction will be awarded.

According to the Panam Sports announcementthe voting process through its website to choose the winners is open from this Tuesday and will last until December 21. The results will be announced one day later.

Cuba adds titles in athletics and canoeing at the Junior Pan American Games

This will be the first time that athletes in the youth category will be recognized as part of the Panam Sports Awards, which began to be awarded after the celebration of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Those who are now winners will receive the award during the next General Assembly of the continental sports organization, confirmed its president, the Chilean Neven Ilic.

“We are very proud of what the creation of the Junior Pan American Games has meant. During these years we have seen the progression that many athletes have had,” added the manager, who highlighted that some participants in previous editions of these competitions later shone in world-class events.

In that sense, he pointed out the cases of Stefany Cuadrado and Natalia Linares, both from Colombia, and the Brazilian Márques, with results that “reflect that we are on the right path,” he stated.
