Work along the same lines, said the brand new Departmental Director of INAU Lic. Yandira Álvarez upon officially assuming office.
Yandira Álvarez took over as departmental director of INAU and outlined her management priorities
Graduate Yandira Álvarez in EL PROFESIONAL dialogue explained how she faces this new stage, highlighting the adaptation process, the role of the teams and the need to strategically plan the work for 2026.
Álvarez pointed out that he is in the first phase of in-depth knowledge of the institution:
“We are fine, getting to know the institution a little, because beyond the experience in the local environment and previous work on agreements, the issues related to INAU are not foreign to me, but there is an institutional, administrative and other logic that must be known, which at a certain point is new for me.”
He especially appreciated the reception of the officials:
“I am very satisfied and very happy with the support of all the teams here, who have really opened the doors for me and I am eager to learn and start working.”
CONTINUITY WITH OWN IDENTITY
Álvarez stressed that we are not starting from scratch and that the institution has consolidated lines of action:
“Obviously we are not starting from scratch here, there is work done for many years and there are also guidelines that are national. It is a very organized institution, with many guidelines, and in that sense we are going to continue, of course with a personal imprint, because each person is different and will place their emphasis on different things.”
Currently, your priority is to fully understand the internal functioning:
“The most important thing for me is to know the teams, to know the institutional dynamics.”
A LONG TRANSITION THAT BECAME AN OPPORTUNITY
Álvarez acknowledged that the delay in his effective assumption, although complex, allowed for a prior approach to the territory:
“I think that the fact that the effective assumption of the position has been delayed so long ends up being an opportunity. These months have been one of uncertainty for the teams, but they have sustained the institution with a lot of commitment.”
The entry occurs in a period of closures and evaluations, which facilitates planning:
“December is a closing month that will allow us to take this time to know and project a strategic plan from January-March, which will allow us to have annual planning and indicators to measure results.”
OVERCOME THE LOGIC OF EMERGENCIES
The new director stressed the need to not work only on the immediacy of urgent cases:
“We cannot only work on this dynamic of putting out fires. We need to focus on a longer period of time, being able to evaluate and see all the positive things that are also done at INAU.”
ARTICULATED WORK WITH AGREEMENTS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS
Álvarez reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the organization’s departmental network:
“INAU is already participating in institutional settings and is completely open to working in an articulated manner.”
He especially highlighted the role of civil society organizations that manage services under agreements:
“We have official services and a departmental INAU system managed by civil society organizations. These services are as important as the official ones, they are all part of the same framework.”
Therefore, one of its first lines of work will be to strengthen territorial coordination:
“We want to work in a very direct link with the services in agreement and also with other institutions, official or not, to think about departmental strategies and establish joint work guidelines.”
