In Alianza Alto Penedo, Chanchamayo, more than a thousand farmers were isolated after the collapse of the provisional bridge over the Colorado River. The structure, built by residents while a new bridge valued at 800 thousand soles is being built, was swept away by the rising river this weekend.

The bases of the new work are also covered by stones and clearings, making its progress difficult. Currently, farmers must cross the river by walking on a log and holding on to a rope, putting their lives at risk.

More than 100 families from the La Alianza, La Colonia, San Antonio, La Elsa and Porvenir sectors are asking for urgent intervention from the Government and local authorities to reestablish the connection before accidents occur. “The rains are just beginning… don’t expect a disaster,” they warned.
