Chamber of Accounts: 85% of the audits of the 2026 plan will be to the management of the PRM

PLD complaint

Last October, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) denounced that the Accounts Chamber is being used to political persecutioninstead of exercising its function of fiscal control.

The purple party accused the entity of “dig into the past” and ignore the “disorder of the present”.

At a press conference at National House of the PLDleaders of that organization assured that the Chamber of Accounts leaks investigations on officials of the previous government and indicated that said action violates the regulations of the institution.

Meeting with the press

During a meeting with directors and editors-in-chief of media outlets, the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Emma Polanco Meloreported that the current plenary session inherited 235 auditsof which he has been publishing three per week on average.

Polanco Melo highlighted that since April, when he assumed the presidency, the new plenary session has held 25 ordinary sessionsin which they met 168 themesincluded in the institutional agenda, and were issued 119 resolutions.

The official explained that, as part of the technical strengtheningthey integrated 82 new auditors through public competitions and that progress is made in the design of a early warning portal.

“The institutional organic structure according to the Law 18-24 and the modified General Regulations of Applicationstrengthening the regulatory framework”he declared.

The members of the plenary explained that during 2025 the institution signed eight inter-institutional agreements linked to training and strengthening public management.

Likewise, the president assured that since April there has been an increase in compliance with the Asset Affidavit Systemreaching 1,335 statements presented.

He also indicated that it was redesigned the digital formwhich caused a 60% reduction in the required fields.

Emma Polanco added that they developed extended care daysin order to facilitate the process and improve the quality management.

He stressed that the institution made progress in the design of its Integrated Management Systemstandards-based ISO quality, anti-bribery and compliancewith the goal of becoming the first Supreme Audit Institution in the country certified in three international standards.

235 legacy audits

The current plenary session reported that it inherited 235 audits of the previous administration, which was characterized by various scandalsamong them the accusation of a commission of the Chamber of Deputieswhich indicated that the entity executed only the 54% of the budget assigned in 2021 and the 68% in 2022in addition to the low number of audits completed.
