Despite the fact that the United States Government is trying to position the idea that Venezuelan airspace is unsafe and has declared its total closure, without having jurisdiction to do so, this Tuesday, the Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reported that the Venezuelan Aeronautical Authority received a request from the United States to resume migrant repatriation flights.
Through a statement posted on the Instagram account, it is indicated that the Government of President Nicolás Maduro has authorized the arrival at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, in La Guaira, of aircraft from the US airline Eastern Airlines.
According to the official text, a flight will enter Venezuelan airspace with “the Phoenix, Arizona-Maiquetia route, with flight number EAL8280/8281, on the aircraft B777-200, registration N771KW (main), N825KW (alternate) (…), as has been happening on a weekly basis on Wednesdays and Fridays, since the agreement signed between our Government and the US administration.”
Last Saturday, November 29, President Donald Trump, in a new attempt to escalate his aggression against the Bolivarian nation, asked all airlines to consider “completely closed” the airspace “over and around Venezuela”, despite not having the power to apply this type of measures.
Previously, several airlines stopped operating to Venezuela due to the “extreme caution” alerts issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration when flying over this territory and the southern Caribbean.
Such action has been rejected by the Bolivarian Government, which suspended several airlines that did not comply with the 48-hour period given for them to resume operations in the country.
Venezuela has denounced that this is a new siege strategy that the Government led by Donald Trump intends to impose.
The migrant repatriation flights were suspended unilaterally last week by the US. To date, 75 flights have been completed and more than 13,000 compatriots have returned through the Great Mission Return to the Homeland.
