Santo Domingo.-The general secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Johnny Pujolsdescribed this Monday as “an excess” the summons made by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to the demonstration called by the party Power of the People (FP), pointing out that this action adds to a worrying tendency of electoral bodies to intervene in constitutional rights and the autonomy of political parties.
During his intervention on the radio program The Evening GovernmentPujols warned that the JCE measure “is too similar” to recent rulings by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), which, he said, have sought to unjustifiably influence the internal life of the PLD.
He stated that these actions reveal a institutional pattern that deserves responsible attention from society and political leadership.
In his opinion, there is a risk that the electoral authorities exceed the limits of their powers.

Pujols recalled that the Constitution protects the autonomy of the parties and the freedoms of assembly, march and expression of the Dominican people, which, he stressed, do not depend on sympathies or colors.
Defense of the democratic system
The PLD leader affirmed that, although FP did not speak out when TSE decisions affected the PLD, that party will defend the right of all political organizations and citizens to express themselves within the constitutional framework.
“This is not about circumstances. It’s about defending the party system and the democratic freedom of the country. When these rights are unjustifiably limited, the entire democracy is affected,” he indicated.
Pujols insisted that the electoral institutions must act with prudence and respect for fundamental guarantees, avoiding decisions that could be interpreted as arbitrary restrictions.
Likewise, he called on public opinion to observe the behavior of electoral organizations to ensure democratic balance prior to the upcoming electoral processes.
Warning from the JCE to the People’s Force
The JCE formally ordered Power of the People to adjust its activities to electoral regulations, after warning that the march held on Sunday could constitute early electoral propaganda, a practice punishable under current law.
The electoral body recalled that political activities must be framed within the established deadlines and maintained within the limits that guarantee equity between participating organizations.
The warning provoked immediate reactions in different sectors, fueling the debate about the scope of electoral regulations and the balance between institutional control and democratic rights.
The issue continues to generate discussions within the Dominican political scene, especially in view of the country’s pre-electoral calendar.
