The presidential candidate of Aprista PartyEnrique Valderrama, spoke out this Monday after winning the internal elections of the star’s party yesterday.
The 37-year-old politician stressed that the APRA elections were a “democratic exercise” and serve as an “example of politics.” Along these lines, he congratulated the militants who came to vote.
Valderrama assured that he takes with “very calmness” the results that give him the advantage by a small margin, compared to the list of former congressman Javier Velásquez Quesquén. In that sense, he assured that although the Apristas have voted for the renewal, they have also voted for the unity of the party.
“We have not won with an extremely overwhelming percentage. In any case, I think it has been a victory that vindicates the need for a historic party to relaunch itself from all points of view. The renewal means a reaffirmation of the validity of Haya de la Torre’s thought,” he said on RPP.
The presidential candidate assured that in “recent years, the popular sectors have been absolutely neglected by the political class.” Furthermore, he considered that the current Congress “has legislated not only with its back to the people, but even against its own interests.”
“It is important to start building the unity of the party to speak to the country as a single block,” he emphasized.
