More Mexicans and Americans by air
“The numbers speak for themselves,” highlighted the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
He recalled that the Dominican tourism industry managed to exceed the levels prior to 2019 without counting on the just over 600,000 Russian and Ukrainian tourists that arrived in the country prior to the war between both nations, casualties that are reflected in the La Romana International Airportwhich barely received 7,635 tourists62% less than in the aforementioned pre-pandemic year.
However, the increasing interest of latin american tourists to meet the Dominican Republic –with 46% more Mexicans, 23% more Argentines and 14% more Colombians visiting the country only in November this year – has managed to compensate for the decline in the Eastern European market.
Added to this is that USA –the main sending destination– is adding more and more travelers, allowing the recovery of a market that was lagging behind in much of 2025 due to trade tensions.
In November39% of tourists came from USAfor an interannual variation of 10%, with 22,402 tourists above that in the same period last year.
Thus, the Punta Cana International Airport –air terminal that transports the most passengers from North America– reflected a growth of 9% compared to 2024 and concentrated 62% of the tourists –442,566 passengers in total–.
This terminal was followed by Las Americas International Airport –with 155,520 passengers, for a weighting of 22%–, the Cibao Airport –with 72,556 passengers and 10% of the total– and the Puerto Plata Airport, with 31,478 passengers and 4% of the total–.
These arrivals represented a hotel occupancy of 73% – which includes new rooms hotel companies that have entered into operations this year – and a hotel availability of 86%.
32.9% more cruise passengers only in November

On this occasion Taino Bay It concentrated 44% of the passengers received nationwide, with 123,932. This was followed Amber Cove -with 89,661 passengersfor 31% of the total.
Red Cape took third place, with 35,615 visitorsrepresenting 13% of the total and a variation of 1.718%.
