The National College of Journalists (CNP), Caracas section, reported that between January and November 2025 there have been 111 attacks against social communicators. Among the figures recorded, the union organization highlighted the arrest of 21 journalists.
“We denounce the “strategy of forced silence” that uses prison as punishment,” the CNP wrote on its account on the social network X on December 1.

The guild shared a video in which it shows the case of the detained journalists. He demanded respect for the right to inform and freedom for the 21 imprisoned communicators.
The CNP detailed that among the incidents recorded, 18 correspond to “harassment”, 11 to “threats”, eight to “intimidation”, seven to the closure of radio stations and four to the confiscation of equipment used for the exercise of journalism.
Likewise, it reported three “physical attacks” and two verbal ones, two thefts of equipment, two occasions in which journalists’ material was deleted, two deportations of foreign correspondents, a closure of a television channel and an act of vandalism at the CNP headquarters.
According to the CNP, the objective of the Maduro administration is the “total annulment of independent journalism.”

Deterioration of conditions
On November 2, the NGO Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS) of Venezuela registered 130 cases of “violations of freedom of expression” in the country between January and October 2025, which, in its opinion, reflects the “sustained deterioration of the conditions for practicing journalism and the direct impact of impunity on informative work.”
Through a press release, IPYS detailed that the “most common attacks” were “harassment and threats (29 cases), stigmatizing speech (19), arbitrary detentions (14), internet restrictions (33) and limitations on access to public information (15).”
“Behind each number is an attempt to silence an uncomfortable truth and discourage citizen vigilance over power,” the NGO stated.
