An attorney explains the fines and charges faced by parents who allow their children to handle gunpowder.
The lawyer and criminal lawyer Óscar Santamaría explained the legal and economic consequences to which any parent in Colombia who allows his son to handle gunpowder is exposed, especially during the end of the year festivities.
According to the jurist, this conduct could generate a economic sanction of up to 32 current legal daily minimum wageswhich today is equivalent to at least one million two hundred thousand pesos, a figure that may vary each year.

Santamaría recalled that the National Code of Security and Citizen Coexistence also contemplates other corrective measures. Among them are the imposition of a fine and the obligation to attend parental responsibility coursesestablished in articles 152 and 182 of the Police Code.
Added to these sanctions is the possible opening of investigations for the protection of minorsin which the ICBF, the Family Commissioner and even the Attorney General’s Office can intervene.

The lawyer pointed out that, if the child is injured by the explosive device, the case can be taken to a criminal scenario. According to article 220 of the Penal Code, responsible adult could face wrongful personal injury chargesin addition to investigations for omission of care in serious situations.
These warnings occur in the midst of the beginning of the December season, marked in Medellín by the traditional dawn and the massive use of gunpowder. On purpose, This year there have already been 68 people injured with gunpowder in Antioquia, of which 25 are minorsall of them reported in Medellín.
For this year, according to the Police, in Medellín there will be more than 1,200 uniformed officers to guarantee order during the holiday season.
