The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) announced this Sunday that the christmas grace corresponding to the year 2025 will be $5,500, “the highest amount established to date.”
“The measure, ordered by President Luis Abinader, seeks to recognize the contributions of Dominicans residing abroad.”
The general director of Customs, Eduardo -Yayo- Sanz Lovatónreported that the facility will be in effect from December 1, 2025 to January 15, 2026. During this period, Dominicans who arrive in the country will be able to bring gifts for their family members exempt from paying taxes, as long as the FOB value does not exceed the allowed amount and that they are not items in commercial quantities.
The DGA detailed that the grace will be applied per family and will be valid for those who have not visited the country for more than six months. One unit per type of merchandise will also be allowed, especially in the case of household appliances.
The institution explained that the measure responds to the government policy to recognize and reward the dominican diasporafor its impact on the economy and its roots in the country.
