Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, reported that he met with relatives of some of the Venezuelans murdered in the operation deployed by the US in the Caribbean Sea
The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, announced that parliament will begin a “rigorous and in-depth” investigation of the “serious events that led to the murder of Venezuelans in the waters of the Caribbean Sea”, within the framework of the operation deployed by the US since mid-August in which they have destroyed some 20 boats and nearly 80 people who were allegedly transporting drugs have died.
Rodríguez reported that this Monday, December 1, they will hold a special session of the National Assembly in which they will appoint a commission to investigate the death of the Venezuelans.
“We are going to determine how many Venezuelans, we know that there are many foreigners among those murdered, President Petro has already mentioned that Colombians have been murdered, people from the Dominican Republic have been murdered, but since the president of the Dominican Republic is kneeling to the gringos, he says absolutely nothing…Trinitarios have been murdered…”
The parliamentarian recalled that the Maduro administration has already debated the issue and has described the attacks in Caribbean waters as extrajudicial executions, but given the “even worsening of the complaint with the fact that shipwrecked people and people hors de combat have been murdered, according to the CNN and The Washington Post report, we are going to open an investigation,” he said.
The president of the AN offered the statements after a meeting with relatives of some of the Venezuelans murdered in the Caribbean Sea.
Rodríguez showed photographs of the meeting held in the Presidency of the National Assembly, but in which the identity of the family members present was protected, given that – as he said – they have received threats from sectors and people interested in not knowing “the truth.”
In this sense, he indicated that they will activate actions in the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic and will request a meeting with the national Executive and with the government of the state of Sucre in order to establish support strategies and guarantee protection to the family members and the entire population of Güiria.

And the results?
This is not the first investigation announced by the Maduro administration into the drug boat case. On September 10, the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, assured that they are investigating. The official specifically referred to the attack of the first boat in the Caribbean Sea in which 11 people allegedly linked to the Tren de Aragua criminal gang died, according to the United States government.
«One does have to investigate, right? Because if they say that they murdered eleven Venezuelans, a responsible government has to see who those Venezuelans are, (…) we have to find out who they are, and we are investigating one by one,” the minister statedwho also assured that “there are not eleven, there are ten” who were on board the small boat.
There has been no public information regarding the progress or results of that investigation announced by Cabello.
