Vicente Tiburcio and soldiers arrive at the border with Chile: "Let's be firm"

The Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcio, arrived at the Peruvian border with Chile this Saturday for an inter-institutional coordination meeting in Tacna, part of the measures that were taken after the declaration of emergency due to the migration crisis in this sector.

Representatives of the Army, the National Police, Immigration, SUCAMEC, as well as other regional and local institutions and authorities participated.

In addition, the operation has a unified command led by the head of the Tacna police region, General Valverde, as part of the actions ordered by President José Jerí for immigration control.

The minister reported that strategic points have been determined for the installation of fixed and mobile patrols, based on experiences in 2023.

There are 100 police officers and 50 military personnel who are in the area and 50 more Army personnel will join in the next few days.

The authorities will cover two main sections: the first goes from milestone 1 to 25, including 8 kilometers in the Santa Rosa sector; the second covers an additional 15 kilometers in another section of the border.

Vicente Tiburcio announced that the Foreign Ministry, headed by Hugo de Zela, will hold a virtual meeting with authorities of the Government of Chile to address possible humanitarian solutions.
