Maiquetía International Airport continues to operate despite Trump's announcement

The Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, the main airport in Venezuela, maintained its operations normally this Saturday, after the announcement by the president of the United States, donald trumpto consider the airspace of this South American country closed.

The aerodrome, which serves Caracas, received two flights from Barbados and Bogotá during the morning and has scheduled routes to Panama, Curacao and Havana, as confirmed EFE on a tour.

At the moment, in the afternoon, two delayed flights to Panama and Bogotá were notified on the screens, all operated by the commercial airline Copa.

Airport sources indicated to EFE that the delays have no relation to the context of tension with the United States.

Likewise, since Maiquetía left on this day a flight to Curacao and another heading to Havana.

Also at the La Chinita International Airport, located in Maracaibo, the capital of the Zulia state (west, bordering Colombia), air operations continued without problems, according to the itineraries published by the airlines.

An unofficial source indicated that seven airline companies continue to work at that airport and during the week they received charter and international flights.

Venezuelan airspace “closed in its entirety”

This Saturday, Trump warned in a message published on his social network Truth that airlines and pilots take into account that Venezuelan airspace “will remain completely closed.”

“To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers: we ask you to consider that The airspace over Venezuela and its surroundings will remain completely closed.. Thank you for your time! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” reads the president’s message, which does not clarify any circumstances related to the closure.

The message occurs after the journal New York Times reported a telephone conversation between trump and the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, to explore a possible meeting, a call that neither party has confirmed or denied.

On November 21, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of The US urged “extreme caution” when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean in the face of what it considers “a potentially dangerous situation” in the area.

This led to several airlines, such as Iberia, Plus Ultra, Air Europa, Avianca and Turkish Airlines, suspending their flights in the South American country, for which the Venezuelan government revoked their traffic permits, after giving them a period of 48 hours to resume operations.
