Today, nearly 83,000 members of the Peruvian Aprista Party (APRA) and Popular Renewal go to the polls, with 578 tables installed in 373 locations nationwideto define their candidates towards the 2026 general election. Elections 2026: How many lists and which candidates will be elected in APRA?
In the APRA party the internal elections will be more close. 15 lists of pre-candidates will compete for a single spot. However, two of them are ahead: 1. That of Hernán Garrido Lecca. 2. Jorge del Castillo.
Also in the race are the lists headed by Enrique Valderrama, Javier Velásquez Quesquén, Jorge Morales, Yamel Romero, Juan Carlos Sánchez Montes de Oca, Nery Juana Quiroz, Augusto Raúl Valqui, Magno Mendoza, Neptalí Ramírez, Emiliano Vargas, Rafael Zevallos, Jorge Risco and José Antonio Torres.
Elections 2026: How many lists and which candidates will be elected in Renovación Popular?
In the Renovación Popular political party there will only be one list that will be made up of Rafael López Aliaga (president), Norma Yarrow (first vice president) and Jhon Ramos Malpica (second vice president). The list must have more than 10% of the votes of the total members in order to be validated and made official before the JNE to compete in the 2026 Elections.
83,000 members between Renovación Popular and APRA
Piero Corvetto, head of ONPE, called for members to vote early.
“We invite the almost 83,000 members of Renovación Popular and the Aprista Party to come tomorrow and be there very early; polling station members can still be trained; we are at the polling stations for any questions, also on social networks; we are ready for tomorrow,” he said.
Primary elections: voting tables will be installed for both parties
Piero Corvetto, head of the National Office of Electoral Processes, indicated that 578 months of suffrage will be installed. “After verifying that the material is correct, in good condition, the same that has already been inspected by the National Elections Jury, an entire conditioning process will begin, in this case of two classrooms, one for Popular Renewal and one for the Peruvian Aprista Party,” Corvetto reported.
