Santo Domingo.- The president of the Duartiano InstituteWilson Gómez Ramírez, says he is very concerned about the signing of the agreement last Wednesday between the Dominican Republic and the United States, regarding “the operation from the national territory of authorities of another nation and operations that involve the transfer of weapons, because it is not just fuel, and that already deserves analysis and reflection”.
To this end, Gómez Ramírez said that the Institute convened its National Board of Directors to a special emergency meeting, in light of the treaties invoked and the Constitution of the Republic, to establish its position.
“Naturally, we, as I said, have concerns; In fact, we are very concerned with what is happening, and that is what it means to issue a clear position that has to follow the line of vehemence and sense of responsibility with which Duarte himself acted.“said the jurist when interviewed on the D’AGENDA program.
He clarified that, with respect to transnational crimes, there is a decision by the world to collaborate and help, to make efforts so that the modality of this crime is faced by the different countries, and that is not discussed.
However, he recalled that “Things are frequently argued and we are exceptional witnesses of what happened here in 1965 and the plea to save lives and that became a very difficult situation for the country, as a consequence of that incursion and that number of soldiers with an interference in a matter that belonged to the Dominicans, which we could have resolved.”.
“And other arguments that have been put forward, actions in other countries where nuclear weapons are alleged, and when you go to see, there is nothing of that, but an incursion occurred and it cost lives and the existence of leaders of those nations.“, he added.
The president of the Duartiano Institute said that all these precedents place the country on a trajectory of making reservations because an argument does not necessarily portray reality.
“Now, the Dominican Republic has to preserve its sphere of sovereignty and maintain its morality at the highest level, because risks arise from improper actions, since we have had the morality to claim autonomy, independence and self-determination, because we have been careful. Even in the most difficult moments we have been careful, also being energetic, clear and responsible”, advised the legal professional.

In another order, Gómez Ramírez clarified that the proclamations of respect for sovereignty should not only be limited to the issue of the Dominican Republic with respect to the challenge that Haiti represents, but with respect to the entire world.
He insisted that the defense of sovereignty has to be against all nations, no matter how big or strong they may seem, because at the end of the day, when it comes to States, there is equality, no matter the size or dimension.
He specified that the Dominican Republic is a State, that for it to truly be one, it has to be independent, it cannot subordinate anything to anyone, nor give in, and that is why the people say that sovereignty cannot be negotiated or given up; neither temporarily nor definitively.
