On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, celebrated every November 29, Latin American governments raised their voices to express their support for the Palestinian cause. Cuba and Venezuela, through statements by their senior leaders, ratified their unrestricted support for the right of the Palestinian people to an independent and sovereign State, while denouncing Israeli military operations in Gaza.
The president, Nicolás Maduro, on his Telegram channel, declared: “On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, decreed by the United Nations in 1977, Venezuela ratifies its absolute commitment and unwavering faith with this cause—which is the most sacred of humanity.”
Maduro advocated that the “recent ceasefire become a true Peace” that repairs the genocide and guarantees “the full right to an independent State.”
The Venezuelan president made a call to action: “the Palestinian cause travels the world and calls us to action.”
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, joined the commemoration, urging “to defend the right of Palestinians to rebuild their sovereign nation with the pre-1967 borders, the right of return of all those who were forcibly expelled after the Nakba of 1948 and the subsequent massacres.”
Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), during a commemorative ceremony, expressed that “Solidarity with the Palestinian people for Cuba is not just a principle, it is action, it is fidelity to our history and our values.”
González Llort strongly condemned the genocide in Palestine, which he described as “the most atrocious crime of the 21st century,” and noted that responsibility lies with the government of the United States and the State of Israel.
In a message on the social network Rodríguez also assured that Cuba will continue “firmly denouncing the genocide that Israel commits in Gaza and the extermination operations.”
