The first four-time champion of Brazilian football in America is called Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. This Saturday (29), Rubro-Negro became the team in Brazil with the most Libertadores titles by defeating Palmeiras 1-0 at the Monumental de U Stadium, in Lima (Peru). The match was broadcast live on National Radio.

The last year in which the position of Brazilian most champion of the tournament was alone with a club was 2011. Santos won that edition and equaled São Paulo, who were the only three-time champions since 2005.
Rematch
The victory tasted like revenge for the Red and Blacks, who lost the 2021 decision to Verdão himself, at the Centenário Stadium, in Montevideo (Uruguay). At the time, the Alviverde title came after a mistake by Andreas Pereira, at the time on the Rio team, which striker Deyverson took advantage of. The midfielder this time was on the Palmeiras side of the final, with discreet participation.
The title crowns an extremely successful generation, which has lifted 16 cups since 2019, including three Libertadores (2019, 2022 and 2025). All with the presence of midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta – elected the star of this year’s edition – and striker Bruno Henrique. Both became the club’s most successful players.

And they can add another trophy to that statistic next Wednesday (2). If the Rio team beats Ceará at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), they will win the Brasileirão one round in advance.
Arrascaeta and Bruno Henrique, in fact, celebrated a Libertadores title for the second time at Monumental. It was there that they won the cup in 2019, in the final against River Plate (Argentina), the first in the single-game format. Coach Filipe Luís – who became the ninth to win the South American tournament as coach and player – and assistant Rodrigo Caio were also on the field in that decision, respectively as left-back and defender of the team led by Jorge Jesus.
The Game
The match started 15 minutes later than scheduled, due to the delay of the Palmeiras bus, which had difficulty reaching the stadium due to the traffic in Lima. If Abel didn’t bring any new features to the Alviverde formation, it was different at Flamengo, with Samuel Lino beating Everton Cebolinha to compete for a place in the attack.
With the ball rolling, Flamengo started the match by occupying the attacking field and reducing Palmeiras’ spaces. Rubro-Negro had two good chances, one on each side. In the 14th minute, full-back Guillermo Varela threw Bruno Henrique behind the marker. The attacker finished from the edge of the area, but over the top. In the next move, Samuel Lino received the ball on the left, left full-back Khellven’s marking and hit a cross, close to goalkeeper Carlos Miguel’s left post.

As it went on, the first stage became more tense and lacking. There were four yellow cards before 40 minutes (three for Flamengo and one for Palmeiras). One of them, applied to the Erick Pulgar steering wheel, generated complaints from Verdão. The Chilean hit Bruno Fuchs’ shin, with the game at a standstill, following a foul by the defender in the previous play. The Alviverde players asked for red, in vain.
Palmeiras gradually got their marking right and started to frequent Flamengo’s field, but without much effectiveness. The best chance was at 20, on a cross from Khellven, from the right, which striker Vitor Roque headed down, the ball bounced on the pitch and went up close to the crossbar.
The teams returned for the second half imposing a rush and looking for more finishes. Flamengo, just like in the initial stage, sought to dictate the pace. The best red and black performance, this time, was rewarded.
In the 21st minute, Arrascaeta took a corner from the left, Danilo went up alone and, with his head, sent it into Carlos Miguel’s right corner. Fourteen years after scoring Santos’ title-winning goal against Peñarol (Uruguay), the defender found the net again in a Libertadores final. And again decisively.

Verdão launched the attack in search of a draw. In the 43rd minute, Vitor Roque had the São Paulo team’s best opportunity of the game, following a header from defender Gustavo Gómez that was blocked by the defense. The striker finished in the small area, but the ball deflected off Danilo and went out the end line.
Cebolinha, who lost his place in the starting lineup to Samuel Lino, entered the game well and took the pressure off Flamengo after the goal. In the last minutes, they managed to launch counterattacks and take the ball away from the defense.
In stoppage time, he advanced quickly in a great move and was brought down on the edge of the area. When taking the shot, he hit a low free kick, Carlos Miguel didn’t hold it and the ball hit the left post. The almost goal was not missed. The final whistle exploded the red and black party in Lima, as in 2019, in Rio de Janeiro in various corners of Brazil.
