The incident occurred after 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28 in the Los Olmos neighborhood, municipality of Pesquería, the entity’s Civil Protection detailed. “Two deaths were recorded at the scene, (and) one in hospital,” detailed an official report from that entity published on social networks.
The fire broke out in an “illegal storage of fireworks” in a residential area, the bulletin added, detailing that four houses were affected by the flames. Neighbors in the area captured images that they shared on social networks showing fireworks over the affected homes.
Local media broadcast images showing the affected homes, a couple of them almost consumed by the fire. The shock waves caused damage to at least 20 surrounding homes. Until this Saturday morning, emergency services continued with removal work.

The activity in these factories where gunpowder is used for different explosive items and fireworks, both legal and clandestine, increases due to the end of year holidays.
In recent years, Mexico has recorded similar incidents in different parts of the country. In December 2016, an explosion in some pyrotechnics workshops in Tultepec, State of Mexico, left more than 40 dead.
