According to the president, this initiative seeks to strengthen control in bordering areas in the face of the risk of a possible migratory emergency in both the south and the north of the territory.
“In the Congress of the Republic there is an initiative that is pending in the Constitution Commission to modify Magna Carta, so that the Armed Forces protect the borders, as Executive we are going to request that Congress prioritize the debate in the Constitution Commission,” he told the media in Tumbes.

Jeri He pointed out that previous governments “completely neglected” the border areas and that it is necessary to apply extraordinary measures to confront threats linked to organized crime, illicit trafficking and the growing migratory flow.. The head of state added that, as a complement to the declaration of emergency on the borders, his government will promote a constitutional reform aimed at eliminating the restriction that prevents investments – including foreign investment – in the 50 kilometers adjacent to the border line, a measure that the Executive promotes without detailing its implications in terms of security or who would be the main beneficiaries.

Jerí also announced that in the coming weeks he will hold an official meeting with his counterpart from Ecuador, with the aim of addressing bilateral cooperation issues and environmental issues in the border area.
