Huancayo celebrates mass marriage and surpasses annual record of civil unions

The Provincial Municipality of Huancayo (MPH) reached an annual record of civil unions after celebrating the Free Mass Civil Marriage 2025, an activity that allowed 60 couples to access this service at no cost. The event took place in Plaza Huamanmarca, where the bride and groom shared the ceremony accompanied by typical music and the presence of family members.

The Civil Registry Office reported that, with this mass, 210 marriages have been reached so far this year, a figure that easily exceeds the records of 2024. Depending on the area, the low costs offered by the commune – compared to the prices of notaries or individual marriages – motivated more couples to formalize their relationship.

During the ceremony, the MPH delivered the traditional palpa and set up a photography space for the newlyweds. Among the stories, the oldest couple stood out, made up of José del Milagro Elizarbe (77) and Ricardina Jiménez (66), and the youngest, made up of Plinio Castillo (18) and Diana Atanacio (19).
