Lula's speech will highlight exemption from IR and social programs

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recorded a speech on national radio and television, which will be broadcast this evening Sunday (30), at 8:30 pm. Lasting around 6 minutes, the statement will highlight the sanction of the law that exempts from Income Tax (IR) who earns up to R$5,000, signed this week.Lula's speech will highlight exemption from IR and social programs

The measure was one of Lula’s main campaign banners in the 2022 elections and was made possible through the taxation of high fortunes, seeking to correct distortions in the country’s income taxation.. The IR exemption comes into effect in January 2026 and will benefit more than 15 million Brazilians, according to projections from the Ministry of Finance.

Repeating the same scenario as the speech on the occasion of the Independence Day, Lula recorded the new video in front of his work desk, in the Planalto Palace office, with the national flag and a picture of the world map in the background. The choice of president seeks to reflect the image of a statesman and a world leader with a strong presence on the global stage.

In the speech, in addition to highlighting the promise fulfilled and the social impacts of the income tax exemption for those earning up to R$5,000, and discounts for those earning up to R$7,350, the president enumerates the resumption of social programs and the recovery of the country’s economy, which displays the lower unemployment rates of the historical series, in addition to recording growth rates higher than the average for countries on the continent.

Lula remains in the federal capital and has no public agenda this weekend. Over the course of next week, the president is expected to fulfill a series of public commitments, including a opening of dams in the interior of Pernambuco and ceremony of delivery of the first units of the Brazilian National Teaching Card and equipment for the Mais Professores Program, in Ceará.
