The Cuban series The General’s starsbroadcast this summer on Cubavisión, is one of the seven nominated in the animation category of the Latin American Television Awards (TAL).
In the event, which each year recognizes the best of public, educational and cultural television on the continent, the series competes with productions from Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina, according to a report by Granma.
The seven chapters tell the life of the mambí Quintín Bandera, a key figure in the three independence wars of the 19th century. The script is the work of Omar Felipe Mauri, based on his own 2015 comic strip, directed by Jesús Rubio Molina and soundtrack by Enrique Kiki Corona.

The dubbing was led by Magda González Grau, with voices such as Luis Enrique Carreres, Eman Xor Oña and Vicky Suárez. Although the idea was born during the Covid-19 pandemic, the ICRT Animation Studios finished it this year, the report adds.
The TAL bring together more than 60 channels from the region and highlight projects that combine technical quality with educational and cultural content. The winners will be announced at the annual ceremony, with no confirmed date yet.
The General’s stars is a historical biography based on the life of Quintín Banderathe only general who fought in the three wars for independence against Spain and managed to survive them all. He spent time in peninsular and African prisons and also participated in the frustrated republican uprising against the Bourbon restoration in September 1886.
The author of the comic, Omar Felipe Mauri, is a self-taught Cuban cartoonist who began his artistic career in 1995 collaborating with several Cuban and foreign newspapers and publications. In 1997 he worked in the cartoon department of the ICAIC, and from 1999 to 2006 he was part of the magazine’s collective. Pioneer.
Last August, another Cuban production from the same television channel won the award for Best Dramatic Program at the 36th CBU Media Awards. The series Bravetransmitted by Cubavision in 2022was recognized as a boost to talent and the narrative of national production about volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Released three years ago, Bravedirected by Heiking Hernández and written by Lil Romero, is inspired by the chronicles “Bitácora del alma”, by Mario Ernesto Almeida, published in the magazine Alma mater.
The series, with 14 27-minute episodes, portrays the experience of six university students who worked as volunteers in an isolation center. Filmed in 2022 over 52 days under strict sanitary measures, the series recreated the challenges of the red zone, with a cast that includes Ángel Luis Capey, Daliana González, Ernesto Codner, Franklyn López, Lorena Gispert and Roberto Romero, along with renowned actors such as Bárbaro Marín.
