President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed yesterday that the Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, will take a medical leave, while the official held a meeting with his team to ensure the continuity of diplomatic work before the surgical intervention to which he will undergo. In her absence, and on instructions from the president, the undersecretary for North America, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, will assume the duties of office manager of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

The agency added that the chancellor took advantage of the meeting to reiterate his support for Roberto Velasco. For her part, the head of the Executive explained on her social networks that there is an agreement for De la Fuente to return to her duties once the weeks required for her recovery have concluded.
After wishing him success in the medical procedure, Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the secretary “has done extraordinary work” at the head of the country’s foreign policy.
