Given the migration crisis on the border of Peru and Chile, the President of the Republic José Jerí announced that the state of emergency in Tacna will be approved, published and effective before midnight.
This was stated by the president in his official X account, after confirming that he will call an Extraordinary Council of Ministers to address the issue.
“Today, before 12 AM, the state of emergency in Tacna will be approved, published and in force to reinforce security on our borders,” he published.
According to Jerí, Tacna will be the first of the country’s borders to be declared an emergency for reasons linked to irregular migration and citizen security. The measure responds to a problem that also involves Chilean territory.
For his part, the regional governor of Tacna, Luis Torres Robledo, pointed out that one of the reasons for the request is the limited police presence to cover the border with Chile.
He also reported that Gore Tacna will provide border control equipment during the state of emergency.
It should be noted that the border with Chile is going through one of its most critical moments, since the flow of migrants intensified after statements by the Chilean presidential candidate José Antonio Kast, who announced that, if he won the elections, he would promote the expulsion of foreigners in an irregular situation.
