HAVANA.- After 37 days on hunger strike, the political prisoner Yosvani Rosell García Caso He remains in critical condition with no prognosis and has kidney failure, according to the medical report from the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital, in Holguín.

In conversation with CubaNet, his wife, Mailín Rodríguez Sánchez, stated that each medical report “is more painful” and fears that García Caso “could die at any moment.”

The 37-year-old was admitted last week and transferred shortly after to intermediate therapy, where visitors are not allowed. “I haven’t seen him for five days. We only receive information at 7:00 am and 6:00 pm,” Rodríguez explained.

García Caso began the strike after more than four years in prison for participating in the 11J protests, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. This week, his eldest daughter was able to see him, but was unable to convince him to abandon the protest. “He is determined to lose his life or gain his freedom,” the wife said.

“We are suffering a lot, dying with him. Every second counts. I fear that only a miracle from God will save him,” she said through tears.

Rodríguez also denounced the presence of State Security and prison system officials inside the hospital. “No one has spoken to me. They only bother friends and family so they don’t come closer. They threaten them, they say I’m a counterrevolutionary. They also have my phone tapped,” she said.

This week, the Defense Complaints Center (CD) requested an urgent precautionary measure before the IACHR, warning that García Caso’s life is at “real and imminent risk.” The organization assured that this is “the only measure capable of avoiding irreparable damage.”

The United States Embassy in Cuba also expressed concern about his state of health and recalled that he is serving an “unjust sentence” in “inhumane conditions” in the El Yayal prison. “He must be released and receive adequate medical care,” he claimed in X.

This Monday, the US congressman Mario Díaz-Balart demanded the immediate release of the political prisoner, also denouncing the surveillance, threats and harassment against his wife and family.
