Havana/Surrounded by a strong political police operation, the political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso has been reported as critical, after presenting kidney failure and symptoms compatible with severe organic deterioration, as confirmed 14ymedio at the Clinical Surgical Hospital of the city of Holguín.
This Friday, García Caso completes 37 days on hunger strike demanding his freedom and that of other protesters imprisoned for the protests of July 11, 2021. Father of three children, the political prisoner was transferred more than a week ago to the intermediate therapy unit of the hospital center where doctors warned about the imminent risk of possible irreversible multiple organ failure

In recent days, the 37-year-old activist sent a message in which he reaffirmed his determination: “Do not ask me to stop my strike, I ask you to fight for my freedom.”
His wife, Mailin Sánchez, publicly expressed the seriousness of her husband’s condition and the deep anguish that the family is going through. In a message sent this Friday to 14ymedioSánchez explained that the medical report received at 7:00 in the morning reported García Caso as “critical and with kidney failure,” in addition to other symptoms that, he assures, have been getting worse “every second.” Close sources report that the political prisoner occasionally drinks just a little water but refuses to receive intravenous hydration.
The woman points out that the situation keeps her family “lifeless, suffering and dying in life,” and asked for “protection” and “a miracle” to save her husband. He also expresses his frustration at what he considers an absence of justice and humanity in the treatment of the case, blaming the Cuban Government for the progressive deterioration of the prisoner’s health.

García Caso’s hunger strike aims to highlight the inhumane conditions, prolonged isolation and lack of adequate medical care faced by many political prisoners in Cuban prisons, denounced by numerous international organizations, such as Prisoners Defenders.
Family members assure that García Caso’s refusal to receive serums, medications or medical treatment is not an act of self-destruction, but rather a gesture of dignity and resistance.
