Yusnier Sorsano will also fight for a belt on a professional boxing poster in Varadero

The billboard of professional boxing which will be held this Saturday at the Melía Internacional hotel in Varadero It will have three Cubans with options to win or retain titles of different caliber, under the protection of the World Boxing Association (WBA), its organizers confirmed.

The trio of local fighters with that possibility was completed by Yusnier Sorsano, candidate for the Federlatin 154-pound belt, according to the report from the sports portal Hit.

Alberto Puig de la Barca, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, commented that the decision is the result of the negotiations with the WBA carried out together with the promoter Agon Sports, which for the second time organizes a professional card in the famous spa.

Sorsano, current national runner-up in that division, will be facing his second professional fight, this one against the Argentine Nicolás Verón, agreed to eight rounds.

Everything seems to indicate that the Cuban will now take on a larger challenge, taking into account the greater experience of an opponent who has a record of 11 wins, 14 setbacks and one draw, the publication states.

The boxing evening in Varadero maintains as the most attractive duel the one between the Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez, along with the bronze medalist at that level, Lázaro Álvarez, in both cases with crowns at stake.

Cuban boxing: Lázaro Álvarez wins “by knockout” and Erislandy Álvarez wins with “a weak performance”

The only Cuban monarch in Paris 2024 will now have the Mexican Rogelio Jiménez in the opposite corner, who will have a maximum of 10 rounds to try to take over the Latin American continental throne of the 63.5 kilogram division, which the Sancti Spiritus native won on the same stage and successfully defended on one occasion.

For Erislandy it will be his fifth foray as a professional, something that contrasts with the longest career of his opponent, successful in 14 of his 17 presentations in rented boxing.

With good experience in these scenarios, also Mexican Raúl Hernández (15-3-2) arrives to challenge Lázaro in 10 rounds, triple amateur world champion and Olympic bronze medalist, who will put his belt as American continental champion of the 61.5 kilograms at stake for the third time.

Other Cubans will be part of the Saturday card, all making their first presentations as professionals with Agon Sports, the company that maintains a representation contract for boxers linked to the island’s federation.

Professional boxing returns to Varadero

Among them, the world runner-up Saidel Horta (51.7 kg) and the bronze medalist at that level, Alejandro Claro (50.8 kg). Both will cross gloves for six rounds with the Dominican Misael Vázquez (18-5-1) and the Argentine Mauro Liendro (11-10-0), respectively.

Completing that group are Nelson Williams (90.7 kg), rival of the Dominican Jankelly Rodríguez (4-0-0), and Keylor García (79.3 kg), who will challenge the Colombian Armando Fontela (4-3-0).

Two lawsuits from the program will confront foreign fighters. In one, the Moroccan Moussa Gholam (24-1-0) will seek success against the Mexican Ramiro Cesena (19-2-1) to retain his American continental gold belt. In the other they will be on the pitch against the German Malek Semmo (2-0-0) and the Venezuelan Julio Pérez (2-0-0).
